Aviary of Her Solitude is a poetic, dialogue-free short film exploring solitude, belonging, and female subjectivity within contemporary multicultural Australia.
Visually driven and non-linear, the film follows a young woman—once a bird—navigating migration, emotional fatigue, and the quiet tension between integration and inner isolation. Through movement, surreal imagery, and symbolic transformation, the film reflects the unseen psychological landscapes of migrants and international students, particularly women, living between cultures.
Rather than telling a story through words, Aviary of Her Solitude relies on body, space, and rhythm to express what often remains unspoken: the experience of appearing to belong while feeling quietly caged inside.
The film is led by Olivia Wang, an award-winning Chinese–Australian actor and interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans performance, screen, and movement-based work. Known for her physically expressive, minimalist approach, Wang’s work often explores migration, identity, and interior emotional states, positioning Aviary of Her Solitude as part of her ongoing artistic inquiry into embodied storytelling and cross-cultural experience.

Following the screening, lead artist and creator Olivia Wang will join the audience for an online conversation, sharing insights into the creative process, artistic language, and cultural context of the work. The film will be officially released shortly after the event.
